Overview

This is the Zanzibar’s best kept secret, its an ancient limestone jungle cave with crystal clear turquoise fresh water.

It offers a unique experience for adventurous nature-lovers, snorkelers, divers and people interested in Swahili Culture.  The cave is a 50 metre round sink hole in the middle of a small jungle in Jambiani, East Coast Zanzibar.

The circular shape of the cave is a result of over 250,000 years of rainwater eroding the limestone. A large natural rock sculpture in the shape of an elephant is used by locals as an alter to make offerings to the spirits who live in the cave and request their support.

Highlights

  • 4 hours guided tour
  • Bring your swimming gears

Note: Tourists may combine this tour with either a Dolphin tour, a Stone town tour, or a Spice tour.

The cave is accessible by a few stairs and wooden decking so people with a general fitness level can enjoy this hidden wonder tucked away in the tropical jungle of Jambiani.  At the base of the cave there is a crystal clear pool made from seepage from the underground water table and subterranean rivers.  The fresh (sweet) water is cold but refreshing.

Visit includes swimming in the pure and fresh water (cooking lesson with lunch and drumming lesson can be added to the activities if requested at extra costs). You can mix your program as you wish. Possibility of choice between 4 hours stay.
